Project Description
Back to the days when Lampang was once the center of Thailand forest industry where many precious woods like teak had been cut down and processed to ship to many countries in Europe and of course brought a lot of wealth to this city. At that time, many foreign companies had flocked to this city to set up their business and Louis T. Leonowen was among all of them.
He founded a company named after him and became one of the major wood companies that sold not just woods but many import products from all around the World. With his wealth, he built a nice big house here in Lampang to live in the early years and later to be also the head office that many of his company’ s managers lived for many years before it was handed over to the Forest Industrial Organization of Thailand. During the time FIO has been taking care of this house, the house becomes unusable and left empty even though it is a property that has such an enormous value in terms of history and surely can generate many benefits to this beloved city and its community.
Recently, there is a movement to bring to life of this house by a group called Love Lampang Heritage (that comprises people from many career sectors who want to preserve the heritage of their city that many nice old houses have been destroyed one after another) and the government to hold activities and events called “Ta-Maoh Retro Fair to persuade people to visit the house.
Nowadays, the Louis T. Leonowen house becomes one of the must see tourist spots of Lampang and tourists who visit this place can enjoy walking around this area of Ta-Maoh Village (that many nice old houses like this one still kept alive) to see the beauty of Old Town Lampang.
